FA Cup: Conte reacts as Middlebrough dump Tottenham out

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Antonio Conte has criticised his team’s performance after they were dumped out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.

Conte fielded an unchanged XI from the side that hammered Leeds 4-0 last weekend in the Premier League.

But they looked lethargic and short on ideas against the Championship outfit, who had eliminated Manchester United in the last round.

Both sides had chances, with Spurs forward Son Heung-min especially wasteful.

The hosts eventually got their winner in extra time through 19-year-old forward Josh Coburn.

This means Tottenham will end the season trophyless for the 14th year in a row.

Conte told reporters: “This defeat has to hurt me, my players and everyone that works in Tottenham,” said the Italian.

“I feel we lost a big chance here. When you are playing against a team that has played in the Premier League, you have to kill, in a sporting way, your opponent.

“When you don’t score the chances you create, then you give them confidence. They deserved to go to the next round and compliments to them.”
