EPL: Rudiger gives Chelsea 10 days to offer him new contract

Chelsea defender, Antonio Rudiger has given the club till the end of April to offer him a new deal.

The Athletic reports that the German defender is keen on resolving his future at Stamford Bridge once and for all.

The deadline is because the defender, one of the Blues’ best players this season, is out of contract this summer.

Big European clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are already watching to see how the situation develops.

Rudiger, 29, had earlier rejected two contract offers from the Blues earlier this year and is asking for a salary that puts him alongside the club’s highest earners.

But the trouble is that Chelsea cannot offer Rudiger and other players new contracts at the moment, following the UK government’s decision to sanction club owner Roman Abramovich.

Rudiger’s deadline day is May 1st, and according to Athletic, any successful bid is likely to come after that day.

The German wants to resolve his future in the next ten days so that he can end the speculation surrounding him.

He is also wary of sustaining a major injury in the final weeks of the season, which would put off potential suitors – perhaps even Chelsea.

Rudiger currently earns around £90,000-a-week but he wants parity with N’Golo Kante on £220,000-a-week.
