Former Manchester United assistant coach, Steve McClaren, is reportedly set to join Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford if the Ajax boss takes the Red Devils’ job.
McClaren will become Ten Hag’s No 2 if the Dutchman eventually becomes Man United’s next manager in the summer.
According to the Guardian, McClaren is under consideration to be prospective manager Ten Hag’s assistant if he is appointed as their new manager in the dugout for next season.
McClaren and Ten Hag know each other well during their time at Dutch outfit Twente.
Ten Hag was McClaren’s assistant for the 2008-2009 season at Twente.
It was McClaren’s first season within Dutch football and the potential role reversal at Man United would be Ten Hag’s first foray within the English game too.
Man United are presently in the process of searching for a new manager that will take over from interim boss, Ralf Rangnick at the end of the season.
Ten Hag is currently leading the race to become Rangnick’s successor ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino.
