Former Liverpool man, Jamie Carragher, has praised Lisandro Martinez, describing the Manchester United’s summer signing as an ‘aggressive’ defender and a fighter.
This is following the Argentine’s performance in United’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Monday.
Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford scored for the home team while Mohamed Salah pulled one back for the visitors.
Martinez played alongside Raphael Varane in the defence with Ten Hag opting to drop captain Harry Maguire to the bench.
The £56.7 million summer signing from Ajax delivered an impressive display at the heart of United’s defence.
“I thought tonight would be his type of game,” Carragher said of Martinez on Sky Sports.
“It would be more about reading the game, clever runs in behind, being tight and aggressive, rather than Liverpool playing direct football.
Carragher believes that Ten Hag knows the player he signed so much so that he has ignored all criticisms about his height and featured him in all Manchester United matches so far.
“He’s a really aggressive defender, he’s a fighter,” he added.
Manchester United climbed above Liverpool in the Premier League table with the win and sent Jurgen Klopp’s side down the table.
