EPL: Chelsea to become richest sporting sale in history as Abramovich walks away

Chelsea’s sale price is expected to break the £3billion barrier, making the West London club the richest sale in sporting history, as Roman Abramovich walks away, The Athletic reports.

Chelsea’s sale has been overseen by the Raine Group, an American bank, and at least twenty offers have now been received after interested parties were given until last Friday to submit their bids.

Initially, there were fears the Blues would only collect around £2billion after Abramovich’s assets were frozen by the British government.

But given the overwhelming interest in buying the reigning Champions League holders, it is thought bidders will have to lodge an offer of more than £3billion.

Should that final offer stick, it would mean the Stamford Bridge club will collect the highest ever sum for a club in sports history – eclipsing the £2.5 billion that was spent on basketball team Brooklyn Nets by Joseph Tsai.

Meanwhile, the Raine Group has given a new timeline of when they hope to notify bidders of their decision over the takeover of Chelsea.
