Barcelona, Man City agree on fees for Torres
Barcelona have agreed an initial € 55million ($ 62million, £ 47million) fee for Manchester City striker Ferran Torres, according to reports in Spain and England on Wednesday.
The Spain international, 22, joined City from Valencia for just over £ 20million in August 2020.
Torres has scored 16 goals in 43 appearances for the Champions of England as City have won the Premier League, the League Cup and reached the Champions League final in their only full season at Manchester.
But his second season at City was disrupted by a broken foot that has kept him out since October.
Barca are looking to strengthen their attacking line after City record scorer Sergio Aguero was forced to retire earlier this month due to heart disease, just months after his stint with the Les Catalan giants.
Already knocked out of the Champions League in the group stage for the first time in 20 years, Barca face a fight just to qualify for next season’s competition as they sit seventh in La Liga before the winter holidays.
However, they might still have a hard time getting Torres into the La Liga salary cap.
Lionel Messi’s departure for Paris Saint-Germain is due to the club being unable to retain the Argentinian due to mounting debts.
Barca recorded losses of 481 million euros last season, with gross debt of 1.35 billion euros.
