Ballon d’ Or 2022: Thibaut Courtois suggests player who should win award

Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, has backed teammate, Karim Benzema, to win this year’s Ballon d’ Or.

Courtois said this after Real Madrid defeated Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 second-leg tie on Wednesday night.

Benzema, who scored a hat-trick in Real Madrid’s 3-1 win over PSG, was included in the Ballon d’ Or top five last year.

The France international missed out on the 2021 Ballon d’ Or as Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi won the prize.

“I believe he [Benzema] is one of the greatest players in the world, the best nines maybe with Lewandowski right now,” Courtois told RMC Sport.

“I think he showed why he should, maybe, win the Ballon d’Or this year. He’s a great player, a real captain, he led the team to victory with his goals and his class.”
